Ownstead Core · reusable manufacturing foundation

A manufacturing foundation, extended around your operation.

Ownstead Core verifies selected inventory, purchasing, receiving, production and fulfillment flows in synthetic manufacturing scenarios. The broader product tour also shows workflows from an existing ERP implementation; not every feature is in Core today. We confirm what is verified, being ported or client-specific before quoting.

Verified in Core

Selected inventory, purchasing, work-order and fulfillment workflows, validated with invented company data.

Extended workflows

CRM, drawing-led quality, workforce scheduling and integrations require individual porting or client-specific scope.

Project acceptance

Scope, delivery milestones, deployment responsibilities and acceptance criteria are agreed in writing.

Workflows in an existing ERP implementation

Operational details that matter on the floor.

Quality management, end to end

Build inspection plans right on the customer’s drawing: place numbered balloons, set tolerances with a built-in calculator, assign gauges and defect classes. Set AQL sampling by lot size. Inspectors run it on a tablet, sign in with their own PIN, record readings and sign off. Out-of-tolerance readings fail as they’re entered. Open NCRs and CAPAs from the same screen.

A scheduler that knows who can do the job

The production scheduler works from the real shop: each workstation’s capacity, each person’s certifications and training, PTO and sick days, job priority and due dates. If your only certified welder is out, it re-plans and recommends who is qualified instead.

Training matrix that drives the schedule

Skills and certifications aren’t in a separate spreadsheet. They decide who can be assigned to what, and expiring certs get flagged before they cause a problem.

Copilot inside the ERP

Ask in plain English (“which POs are late?”, “what’s our on-hand for 6061 bar?”). It reads purchase orders and flags unusual invoices or payments (watchdog).

Mobile workstations on the floor

Rolling tablet stations put the ERP where the work happens. Operators sign in with their name and PIN to clock in, start and finish jobs and record inspections; managers walk the floor with live status on a tablet or phone. Shared stations instead of a desk PC for every operator keep it affordable.

AI-assisted migration planning

AI can help prepare a first-pass field map. Your team reviews each mapping, then representative records and transactions are reconciled before a switch. The data scope, parallel-run plan and acceptance checks are agreed for each project.

Capability status

Know what is verified today.

Some workflows shown on this site run in an existing ERP implementation. Ownstead Core is a separate reusable foundation, validated in synthetic scenarios; it is not a complete ERP or a production-ready deployment.

Verified in Ownstead Core demo

A bounded manufacturing flow

Versioned operating profiles; selected make-to-order, make-to-stock and hybrid flows; inventory with FIFO history; purchase orders and partial receiving with inspection decisions; work-order material reservations and output; and order fulfillment. Tested with synthetic company data.

Present in an existing ERP implementation

Additional operating workflows

CRM and quoting; drawing-led inspection plans, AQL sampling and corrective actions; skill and PTO scheduling; copilot and invoice-watchdog features; supplier-quote comparison; and AI-assisted migration planning. Their scope varies, and they are not all ported and verified in Core.

Porting, depth or project-specific qualification

Scope confirmed for each engagement

Finite-capacity scheduling, labor/MES capture, quality quarantine and process locks, live accounting or carrier connections, actual data migration and cutover, AI-provider setup, identity, production hosting, recovery and client acceptance require further verification and written scope.

A feature shown in an existing implementation is not automatically included in Core or in a new project. We identify the working baseline, remaining port and client-specific work before quoting.

Built around your process

Bring us your process. We’ll scope the right fit.

Every shop has a workflow that does not fit a standard package: a quality step across stations, a shift pattern built around one specialist, or a customer-specific inspection record. We map it with the people who do the work, then agree what can be configured, ported or built for your project.

Quality, your way.

We map inspection steps, first-article rules, customer-specific plans and any required PPAP package, then confirm which parts are already verified and which need project work.

Scheduling, your way.

We map how you cover shifts, specialists and constraints. Scheduling depth and qualification rules are scoped against the current verified implementation.

Real screens, clearly labeled.

The public product tour is made from screenshots with synthetic data. A live workflow demonstration is arranged only for features that are ready to show.

Example workflows from an existing ERP implementation

1 · Drawing to inspection

Quality: from customer drawing to signed inspection.

  • Upload the drawing and balloon every characteristic, with its tolerance, gauge and defect class
  • AQL sampling (ANSI/ASQ Z1.4) sets how many pieces to check
  • Readings are checked as they are entered, and an out-of-tolerance result is flagged
  • The failure opens a nonconformance, linked to the job and the inspection

2 · A certified welder calls out sick

Re-plan the day before the first shift starts.

  • Shows who holds the weld certification, who is on leave today and what each person costs
  • Proposes new times on real machine and crew calendars, around a weld station that is down for repair
  • Checks every job against its promised ship date before anything moves
  • A lead reviews the plan and applies it. Nothing changes on its own

3 · Supplier award

Three quotes in. Pick the one that keeps the job on time.

  • Every vendor’s piece price, tooling and lead time side by side, with the gap to the lowest
  • Lead times weighed against the date the job needs the parts
  • In the synthetic example, the lowest-priced quote misses the required date, so the buyer reviews a higher-priced option with a suitable lead time
  • Awarding asks for confirmation, and any later swap keeps its reason in the history

Source access and operating rights. Your client agreement defines the rights to use, host, maintain and modify the delivered system. It also distinguishes reusable Ownstead technology, customer-specific work and third-party components.

Connected services, including AI providers, accounting or shipping systems, may require separate accounts and integration work. What is included is listed in the agreed project scope.

Security and your data

Access, history and recovery are part of the project scope.

The reusable Core demo has tenant-scoped roles and audit history. Production identity, hosting, backups and recovery must be configured and verified for each deployment before go-live.

Role-based access
The Core demo applies roles to synthetic workspaces. Production identity and permission configuration are validated for the deployment.
Audit history
The Core demo records operational changes and preserves key inventory history. The exact audit and retention requirements are agreed for each project.
Separate workspaces
Tenant scoping is verified in the Core demo; production boundaries and access are part of deployment acceptance.
AI and external services
AI, accounting, shipping and other providers are separately scoped. Provider accounts, data access and permission boundaries are agreed before use.
Backups and recovery
Recovery objectives, backup procedures and restore evidence are specified and tested for each production deployment before handoff or go-live.

Buyer questions

Questions to ask before choosing a manufacturing ERP.

Start with the work your team needs to do, then ask vendors to show evidence in a realistic scenario.

What ERP is right for my job shop?

There is no best system for every shop. Compare how each option handles your mix of make-to-order, make-to-stock or mixed work; quoting; material availability; shop-floor execution; quality records; reporting; and support. Ask each vendor to show what is available today, what needs configuration, what needs custom work and what is still planned. Ownstead starts with a fit assessment to see whether a tailored system makes sense for your operation.

What should I ask an ERP vendor to demonstrate?

Bring a normal order, a material shortage, a priority change, an inspection failure and a shipment. Ask the vendor to follow each from the source record through the shop and into its final status. Also ask what is live product, configured behavior, custom development or roadmap. A real screen tour and a live application are different things; confirm which one you are seeing.

How do I replace an old manufacturing ERP safely?

Map the workflows and data you rely on, assign owners to approve field mappings, rehearse representative transactions, run old and new systems side by side where the project scope permits, reconcile important records and get team sign-off before switching. The migration scope and duration depend on your systems and data. Read our ERP migration checklist.

Is Ownstead Core ready to replace a production ERP today?

No. Ownstead Core is a reusable foundation verified with synthetic manufacturing scenarios; it is not a complete ERP or a qualified production deployment. Some workflows shown on this site are from an existing ERP implementation and have not all been ported and verified in Core. Availability, migration, hosting and acceptance requirements are confirmed in the written project scope.

Is the product tour a live demo?

No. The public tour uses screenshots and synthetic sample data; it is not a live public application. A live demonstration can be requested during a consultation for workflows ready to show.

What does it mean that the customer owns the ERP?

The client agreement defines source-code access and continuing rights to use, host, maintain and modify the delivered system. Reusable Ownstead technology, customer-specific work and third-party components are identified separately.

Tell us what you run today.

Book a free consultation and fit assessment. We will learn what you need, tell you honestly whether we fit, and give you a fixed quote for the build, plus the monthly cost of hosting and support if you want us to run it.

We work best with manufacturers and distributors that have outgrown spreadsheets or an older ERP and want workflows fitted to how they work. Team size, fit and timeline are assessed together.
